Consortium

The ProSafeBeef project is a 'food-chain' RTD initiative which has concentrated appropriate resources from a wide diversity of research distributed throughout the EU and beyond.  The consortium is multidisciplinary and has been carefully selected to carry out effectively and efficiently the research, innovation, demonstration and training activities necessary to enliven this research area and fulfil the objectives described in section 2.

The ProSafeBeef consortium comprises of 41 participants from Research Institutes, Universities, private companies and industry organisations from 13 European countries, as well as Brazil, United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.  In addition many more SMEs and bigger enterprises will participate in Demonstration, Training Technology Transfer and Dissemination activities (see Annex 4 for details of some of these partners).  The SMEs from many parts of the beef chain will play a pivotal role in the development of ProSafeBeef.  An SME (ADIV) is on the Governing Board.  Their involvement will focus the consortium on the need for research results to translate into innovative processes and products and science based strategies for best practice in beef manufacturing.

The gap between research results and applications is wider in Europe than its key global competitors.  This is especially true in relation to the beef industry.  ProSafeBeef will narrow this gap by close integration between researchers and industry across Europe.

The overall driving force for attracting high calibre participants with appropriate vision is the unique opportunity to re-define the beef production and processing chain making it adept and capable of delivering a wide range of safe innovative processes and products to satisfy the changing demands of the European consumer. All participants share this important vision and have committed significant resources in ensuring that the consortium will succeed.
